Prevention Resource Center
As a part of the American Indian Institute, the focus of materials is relative to Native American cultures. This allows the center to concentrate on quality materials that are available in today’s market regarding awareness and treatment measures for all people. These materials are designed to address prevention measures and programs that are available to educate and teach the concepts, treatment, statistics, and services. It provides an avenue for disseminating information to Native Americans from all tribes. The AIPRC has been made possible through a grant with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: To identify and disseminate targeted prevention materials relevant to Native American culture, such as brochures, training, research “fact sheets”, statistics, etc. In addition the AIPRC will acquire prevention information which targets Native Americans for dissemination to ODMHSAS, prevention centers, and other interested entities including tribes and individuals. The major goal of the AIPRC is to construct and develop a resource center that will include volumes of information both in written form and electronically that will aide the efforts in preventing substance abuse in the Native American culture. To assist in these efforts, the AIPRC plans to distribute correspondence, at a minimum of once per year, to tribal schools/universities, health departments, human services and community service agencies to create awareness of the prevention resource center and the availability of materials, training and technical assistance.
